A Way Through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is one of the names that describe a long-term illness mainly characterised by severe fatigue, muscle pain and nervous system malfunctions.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Myalgic Encephalopathy (ME) is another common name. Myalgic Encephalomyelitis translated to english means illness or inflammation of muscles and the nervous system.

The illness is also diagnosed as Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVS) or Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS). Both refer to the immune system irregularities noted by some sufferers.

There are some similarities with fibromyalgia, not, however, regarded as the same illness.

Patients frequently use the term ME as it describes their symptoms. Doctors prefer CFS because there is no evidence of muscle inflammation.
